Practicum Musicae Orchestra is looking for a conductor

The Practicum Musicae Orchestra (PMO) is looking for a new conductor to start in September 2023.

About the PMO

The Practicum Musicae Orchestra was founded in 2019 as a chamber orchestra by and for students of the minor Practicum Musicae at Leiden University and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Participation in the minor is not a requirement for joining the orchestra, but a passion for music, a proficiency on one's own instrument and a motivation to learn together and from each other are. In this way, the orchestra offers a place to students who are both academically and musically developing at a high level.

Besides a focus on a higher standard and smaller-sized works, the PMO distinguishes itself from other (student) orchestras by also seeking academic and/or social relevance each time. In the autumn of 2022, for instance, the orchestra performed a programme featuring only works by female composers, including a commissioned composition by Hesce Mourits, combined with a lecture on the background and social context in which these works were created. Early September 2023, in honour of the 230th anniversary of the Koninklijke Maatschappij voor Natuurkunde "Diligentia "the orchestra will perform a new work by composer Florian van der Reijden in which current scientific themes are expressed in music.

The orchestra rehearses on Tuesday evenings (as often as necessary for the planned performances) at a 10-minute walk from Leiden Central Station.

Listen to the orchestra at Leiden University's Dies Natalis 2022 or at our own concert in November 2022.
